Contact Lens Healing

When there is a scratch on the cornea, often times we can apply a contact lens bandaid which will allow the eye to heal itself.

How many hours of the day are you sitting at a computer? Please ask our office for a blue lens which helps protect your eyes from the blue light emitted by screens.

A patient recently complained of dry eye and his other optometrists were not helping. We tested out a new eye drop for him and he felt relief immediately.

Did you know these facts about animal eyes?

We came across this article that has 32 facts about animal eyes that you may not have known. This would be great to read to a child, classroom, or just for yourself to learn something new!
Number 20 is the most interesting one to me:
"An ostrich’s eye is bigger than its brain."

A Simple Solution

Image result for funny contact lens solution picture

About two years ago, a patient came in complaining of burning and itching of her eyes when wearing her contact lenses.  Quoting the patient, she stated she had this problem for years.  She had seen specialists and had certain medications administered to her eyes.  There was no difference.

It should be known that certain patients are allergic to specific contact lens cleaning and storage solutions. This patient certainly was.  Her problem with her eyes stemmed from the fact that she was allergic to the contact lens solution she was using.  When we changed the solution, her problem with her contact lenses disappeared.

Of course, not all problems with contact lenses are due to the solutions one uses.  But when there is a problem, this should be one of the considerations in dealing with the patient.

Prescribing For Computer Users

Most of my patients, no matter what age, are part of the digital age.  A specific population I want to discuss are those who work on desk top computers who are  in their late 40's or older.  Many of these individuals wear bifocals.  The problem is that they are trying to use the correction given for distance and conventional reading at 16' while viewing the monitor. The problem is you're looking at your monitor that is usually at 24" or more at eye level. Therefore the patient who uses this type of correction has to tilt their head back and lean into the screen.

This type of situations requires a second type of correction where the top part of the bifocal is measured at the distance the patient is viewing their monitor  while the bottom part of the bifocal is measure for text viewing at 16".  This helps to eliminate neck strain as well as eyestrain.  Also there are various antireflective coating you can apply to the lens that helps to reduce glare and eyestrain.
