Esports and vision

My name is Robert Rothbard, O.D and I'm an optometrist.  I have been working with individuals sitting in front of monitors for well over thirty years.  I have had very good success in dealing with visual symptoms such as blurred vision, headaches and visual fatigue resulting from prolonged close-up viewing of these digital devices.

Never have I seen before the visual demands on users of these devices as those participating in esports.  There are various ways we can improve the performance of these players, including prescription lenses and appropriate filters for near and vision training, especially for those viewing multiple monitors and having to efficiently aim and focus their eyes, among the monitors.

Another problem with the users of digital devices is dry eye.  This stems from the intensity and resulting stress the user encounters while playing.  Part of the problem could be dealt with by making sure the player is blinking their eyes and part of the problem could be dealt with artificial tears or prescription eye drops. If the dry eye is constant, the individual should seek professional eye-care.
